Graphite Portrait - Head and Shoulder

"Kaylyn", work in progress

Here is another small update for those of you who are watching and following along.  I have added a few more light layers to the skin to increase depth and value.  I also darkened the hair a bit and added a few stray wisps of hair. That might get changed later. Yes, I realize her right eye still needs some darkening to match the other eye ;-) ....that's what I will work on next.

Graphite Portrait - Head and Shoulder

"Kaylyn", work in progress

A little bit more progress has been made by adding a few light layers of graphite to increase smoothness of the skin.  Next I will continue working on the eyes and hair.

Graphite Portrait - Head and Shoulder

"Kaylyn", work in progress

My newest piece on the drawing board....I am trying out a different approach from previous drawings I have done.  Usually the eyes was the first thing I focused on to bring life to a portrait quickly, but I am finding with this piece that focusing on the light and shading of the skin first, there is less distraction.  So far I am liking this new approach, but we will see how it develops.  It's possible that after a few layers of 4h and 6h, I'll add the eyes then. Stay tuned for more updates....

Close-up Graphite Portrait

" John"

After many late nights working on this beautiful child's drawing, I have finally completed the portrait.
I think the background looks a bit dark here, and so does the drawing itself, but this is due to the photograph. In real life it is crisp and shows the depth of values better.
I hope my work will be well received. It was created with love and care.

Close-up Graphite Portrait

WORK IN PROGRESS - Update 5

The first layers are applied on the shirt in some areas, but I still have a way to go by adding more layers until it reaches the depth of tone desired.  I am also doing a bit of touching up all over, to refine the drawing further.  But, I am definitely in the home stretch.
